Merge Strava Activities: Combine GPX Files

Can you merge two activities on Strava?

No. Strava cannot merge two activities, on the website or in the app. You can crop the start or end of one activity and, on the web, split one into pieces, but two finished activities can't be joined afterwards.

The way around it is to merge the original files yourself and upload the result:

  1. Export both activities from Strava (or copy the files from your devices).
  2. Merge them in TrailBlender, in GPX or FIT.
  3. Upload the merged file as one new activity.
  4. Delete the two originals so nothing is counted twice.

Step 1: export both activities from Strava

Do this on the Strava website; the mobile app has no export. Open the activity, click the ⋯ menu and choose one of two options:

  • Export Original gives you the file exactly as it was uploaded (usually .FIT, sometimes .GPX or .TCX). Use this whenever it's offered: it keeps every sensor channel your device recorded.
  • Export GPX is the fallback when there is no original file, for example for activities that were recorded in the Strava app. A GPX export can leave out some sensor data, power in particular.

Repeat for the second activity. If you still have the files on your head unit or watch, you can use those instead of exporting from Strava.

Step 2: merge GPX files (or FIT) in TrailBlender

Download TrailBlender for macOS, Windows or Linux, then drop both files in. It reads and writes both GPX and FIT, so you can mix formats and export whichever you prefer.

  • Back-to-back rides (you stopped the timer, or the battery died) are joined in order. A real gap stays a gap.
  • Overlapping rides (two devices on the same ride) are aligned by timestamp and de-duplicated. Pick which file supplies GPS, heart rate, power and cadence.
  • Check the preview on the map, then export one file. Export FIT if either source was FIT, to keep the device-specific channels.

Merging two files is free and your files never leave your computer. For more than two files, or for FIT-only details, see merging FIT files and the FIT file merger.

Steps 3 and 4: upload the result and delete the duplicates

Step 3. Upload. Go to + → Upload activity on the Strava website and add the merged file. Before you do, check that distance and elapsed time add up to the two parts, minus any overlap.

Step 4. Delete the originals. Strava can flag or reject an upload that overlaps in time with an activity you already have, so delete the two partial activities first, or right after the merged one appears. Then set the name, sport type and gear again, because those live in Strava, not in the file.

What you lose by deleting:

  • Kudos, comments and photos on the old activities don't carry over to the new one.
  • Segment efforts are rebuilt from the GPS track of the merged file, so efforts that were valid before are matched again, and new ones can appear.
  • The merged ride gets a new upload date in your feed.

If an activity already has lots of kudos and you only need to remove a few minutes, Strava's own crop is the lighter option; see how to trim a Strava activity.

Checked 19 October 2026: Strava’s manual upload limit is 25 MB per GPX, TCX or FIT file. Check the exported file size before uploading.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you merge two activities on Strava?

No. Strava has no merge feature. Export both activities, combine the files in TrailBlender, upload the result as one activity and delete the two originals.

How do I merge two activities on Strava into one?

On the Strava website use ⋯ → Export Original for each activity, drop both files into TrailBlender, export one GPX or FIT file, then upload it with + → Upload activity. Delete the two partial activities afterwards.

How do I merge two rides on Strava if they came from different devices?

The same way. TrailBlender aligns files that overlap in time and joins files that follow each other, and you choose which device supplies GPS, heart rate, power and cadence.

How do I merge GPX files or combine GPX files for Strava?

Drop the GPX files into TrailBlender, check the map preview, export one merged GPX (or FIT) file and upload it to Strava. Back-to-back files are joined in order and overlapping files are aligned by timestamp.

Will I lose kudos, comments and segments when I merge?

Kudos, comments and photos stay on the old activities and don't move to the merged one. Segment efforts are recalculated from the merged file's GPS track, so you don't lose segments you actually rode.

Will Strava flag the merged upload as a duplicate?

It can, if the originals are still there, because the merged ride overlaps them in time. Delete the two partial activities first (or right after the merged ride appears) and the merged one stands alone.

Does merging keep my power and heart rate data?

Yes. TrailBlender keeps GPS, power, heart rate, cadence and temperature from your files. Use Export Original rather than Export GPX in Strava so no channel is missing before you start.
