GPX Repair — Fix a Broken or Rejected GPX File, Offline

Drop a GPX file that Strava, Garmin Connect or your GPS rejects into TrailBlender and get a clean one back. The repair runs on your own computer; nothing is uploaded.

No upload · No account · Works without an internet connection

Repair a GPX file in three steps

  1. 01

Drop in the broken GPX file

Drag the file into TrailBlender. Its parser is more tolerant than most upload pages, so files Strava or Garmin Connect refuse can often still be read.

  2. 02

    Review what was found

Spikes, tunnel gaps, truncated endings and duplicate points are highlighted on the map. You decide which fixes to apply.

  3. 03

Export and upload the clean file

Save the repaired track as GPX (or FIT) and upload it to Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot or your GPS like any other file.

Download TrailBlender, drop in the broken file and export a clean track in under a minute.

What GPX repair fixes

The problems that make a GPX file get rejected or look wrong:

  • Broken XML

Files cut off when a battery died or a sync was interrupted, so the closing tags are missing and uploads fail with “invalid file”.

  • Missing timestamps

Track points without usable times, which stop Strava from calculating speed, pace and moving time.

  • GPS drift

Spikes that throw you 500 m off the road and back, inflating distance and breaking segment matches.

  • Tunnel gaps

Signal loss that leaves a ruler-straight line through a mountain; the gap is bridged along the likely route.

  • Duplicate points

Repeated coordinates and timestamps from interrupted recordings that confuse speed and elevation calculations.

Not sure what is wrong with your file? Validate it first, then repair only what needs it.

Your tracks stay on your computer

TrailBlender is a desktop application, not a web service. Your GPX files are read from disk, repaired in memory and written back to disk. There is no upload step and no account to create.

That also means offline GPX repair works on a train, in a hotel lobby or at a campsite with no signal. Once the app is installed, an internet connection is never required.

Check the file before you repair it

The free GPX inspector shows whether your file parses, how many points it holds and what looks off, right in your browser.

GPX repair questions

How do I do a GPX repair on a corrupted file?

Open the file in TrailBlender, review the problems it highlights (truncated ending, spikes, gaps), apply the fixes you want and export a new GPX. The original file is never overwritten.

Can I repair a GPX file online?

You do not have to. TrailBlender repairs GPX files on your own computer, so the track never leaves your machine and there is no file size limit imposed by a web service.

Why does Strava say my GPX file is invalid?

Usually the file is truncated, has missing timestamps or contains broken XML. TrailBlender can often read such a file anyway and export a version Strava accepts. Completely empty files cannot be recovered.

Can it fix GPS drift and tunnel gaps in a GPX file?

Yes. Spikes are removed and tunnel gaps are bridged along the expected route, so distance, speed and elevation recalculate from clean data.

Is the GPX repair tool really free?

Yes. The current version of TrailBlender is free to download and use, with no account, trial period or watermark on the exported file.
