Frequently asked questions

Is TrailBlender really free?

Yes. The current TrailBlender utility is free to download and use without an account. TrailBlender is proprietary software.

What file formats does TrailBlender support?

TrailBlender reads and writes both GPX and FIT files. Import files from Garmin, Wahoo, Apple Watch, Coros, Suunto, or any device that exports standard GPS activity files. Learn more in our guide to merging FIT files.

Can I merge files from different devices (Garmin + Apple Watch)?

Absolutely. TrailBlender is designed specifically for multi-device riders. It auto-detects time overlaps, aligns sensor channels, and merges data from any combination of GPS devices into one clean activity file. See our Garmin + Apple Watch merge guide for a step-by-step walkthrough.

Does my data get uploaded to a server?

No. TrailBlender is a desktop application that runs entirely on your computer. Your GPX and FIT files are never uploaded anywhere. All processing happens locally on your machine.

How do I fix a GPX file where GPS died mid-ride?

Open the file in TrailBlender and use the Fix & Repair tool. It can fill GPS gaps, smooth anomalies, and recover data from interrupted recordings. If you recorded the same ride on a second device, you can merge the two files to get a complete activity. Read our Garmin died mid-ride recovery guide for detailed steps.

What's the difference between GPX and FIT files?

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is an open XML-based format supported by most platforms. FIT (Flexible and Interoperable Data Transfer) is Garmin's binary format that stores richer sensor data more efficiently. TrailBlender handles both formats and can convert between them.

Can I trim warmup/cooldown before uploading to Strava?

Yes. Use the Trim & Split tool to cut warmup loops, cooldown segments, or any unwanted portion of your ride. Export the trimmed file and upload it directly to Strava, Garmin Connect, or any other platform. See our trim warmup guide for details.
